The TSA has set up several airports with ‘self-selecting’ express lanes. The TSA has three lanes: one for frequent travelers who do this several times a week and have the routine down cold; infrequent travelers who know what to do but can’t do it in their sleep; and “Family/Special Assistance,” for those of us who are clueless, have several toddlers, or need special assistance.
The interesting thing is that not only the frequent fliers get through faster. Families do, too, because they don’t have some professional traveler breathing raggedly behind them as mom or dad tries to get all the strollers, kids, and diaper bags lined up. With less pressure, families make fewer mistakes and get through the first time.
Denver and Salt Lake City airports have the first programs, and I am unable to find a current list of airports where the program is in use.
