Time to consider travel insurance?

The news this morning was all about cancellations. The FAA ordered inspections of MD88s, and a couple of airlines have a lot of them - hundreds of flights were cancelled. Some people complained that although they were given coupons for overnight stays, the hotels were filled and no rooms were to be had. There was great inconvenience in the land.

If your flight is cancelled or delayed at the start of your vacation, though, it may be more than inconvenient. Missing a cruise or having lodging reservations cancelled may be costly.

Trip insurance can be costly, too, and it may not cover the cause of the failure - bankruptcy of the airline or tour operator, for instance. We have links to some insurance agencies, so take a look at what the coverages are for your particular trip: getting fired, acts of war (distinguished from acts of terrorism), health crisis, and so on. Compare the cost of the insurance with the costs of having your whole trip go down the drain, and factor in the risks.
