Another article about using shipping companies to handle your baggage instead of airlines. In addition to problems with security at airports and with overweight or too many bags, the article mentions that last year the airlines lost seven bags for every thousand passengers. The airlines want you to know this isn’t really all that many. They don’t mention, however, that this is twice the loss-rate of 2002. And we all know that the airlines are shedding employees as fast as possible. Two data points don’t make a trend, but we’ll see how the loss-rate looks in another year.
It costs a some money to ship via one of the services (although it may be cheaper to use UPS or FedEx yourself, there is some value to letting another person handle all those details), the increasing cost of baggage is eating away at the price differential.
