A State Department employee and two contractors (accurate as of this instant) apparently snooped in the passport files of Clinton, Obama, and McCain last year and this year. Apparently the State Department learned of the snooping from a reporter calling to ask for more information.
This is disturbing for what wasn’t said at the press conference.
Did you know you had a passport file? Do you know what’s in it? This morning someone asked the Dept. of State spokesperson what is in a file, and he stuttered and stammered, he read a passport application as an example of what’s in it, said he wouldn’t of course disclose what is in any particular file, then said it doesn’t matter what’s in the file, what really matters is that the system worked.
The application for a passport gives the applicant’s name, address, social security number, place of birth, all of which can be used to pull credit reports and dig deeper into personal information. I have no idea what other information is contained in an individual’s passport records. Do you?
